Aside from being a logistics platform and providing several industrial activities at its ports, Santa Cruz de Tenerife Port Authority also accommodates the facilities of various organizations that are ideally located in the port area because of their links to maritime activity. This is why the port enclosure contains the Spanish Institute of Oceanography, Marine School (part of the University of La Laguna) and the Marine Sports Centre (attached to the Cabildo de Tenerife or Tenerife Island Council).

The bay area of the port is also home to Santa Cruz de Tenerife Royal Yacht Club (a recreational association soon to celebrate its hundredth anniversary), and in the building Edificio Puerto Ciudad Stella Maris, the offices of the non-governmental organization, Pastoral Diocesana del Mar, which provides social assistance to mariners and seafarers.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife Port Authority also safeguards an important photographic and literary legacy, which will eventually be made available to researchers and persons interested in this website.

The port authority also focuses on educating young people about the significance of ports in this island society, and has consequently created a packed annual programme of school visits.

Finally, the location of the port means that it is surrounded by highly populated neighbourhoods that co-exist with port facilities. Collaboration between both parties is therefore crucial to ensure their well-being without affecting the socio-economic activity of maritime communications, which are vital for the islands.
