One of Santa Cruz de Tenerife Port Authority’s top priorities is to provide best quality in all of its services. A fine example is the work being carried out to finish a new Port Inspection Centre located at the fish dock. This centre will streamline inspection procedures for port users and centralize the services connected with this type of infrastructure, currently scattered around the port.
The future building (3,337 m2), one of the largest and most modern in the country, will be built on two floors over a total surface area of 4,655 m2.
In this sense, the future centre will incorporate a SOIVRE (Official Service for Inspection, Surveillance and Regulation of Exports), a Customs Office and a Plant and Animal Control Agency. These entities are all involved in goods inspection at the port and are an essential part of this infrastructure.
In fact, the guidelines for this project were drawn up by Santa Cruz de Tenerife Port Authority and representatives of each of these entities.
Another important feature of the services provided by the port authority is the Service Coordination Centre. This important service for maritime and port traffic will be coordinated from this centre using state-of-the-art technology. The entire safety and security service in the port area will be coordinated from this centre.
The ports dependent upon Santa Cruz de Tenerife Port Authority are strategically located in the capital cities of the western Canary Islands, with land communications linked to the main exit and entry roads to the port enclosures.
As well as the main port located in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the island also has another port in the south, Los Cristianos, which links the islands of La Gomera, La Palma and El Hierro.
Tenerife has two airports, in the north and south, at a distance of 10.2 km and 58,7 km, respectively, from Santa Cruz de Tenerife Port.
Work is currently underway on a third port, Granadilla, which will round off the general services lent by that of Santa Cruz and respond to demand for transshipment in this area of the Atlantic.
