Port Authority > Industrial safety and security > Heavy traffic management
Maritime traffic is both fundamental and crucial for the island economy; it is a vital need. The continuous improvement of facilities, service capacity and monitoring activities is required to ensure that the port can spearhead the island’s economic development.
The inter-island, national and international maritime traffic of goods and passengers has grown steadily over the years. In accordance with this growth, land traffic, which allows for the movement of passengers and goods for import and export, has also increased considerably.
At the same time, in response to the needs of the international, European and Spanish community in particular, legislation and recommendations have been generated that, to a greater or lesser extent, demand in some cases and suggest in others improved rules for organizing and monitoring the entire port area.
Accordingly, in response to the provisions of the prevailing rules and regulation and to its own conviction, the port authority has decided to promote actions needed to produce specific measures in order to upgrade the guidelines regulating land traffic access and permanence within the service area of Santa Cruz de Tenerife Port. To this end, it has initiated the following project: SORGAVE (a system to organize and manage vehicular access).
This organizational system undertaken will provide added value for authorized companies operating in the port. At the same time, appropriate traffic management is anticipated to optimize the comprehensive monitoring of the flow of vehicles and persons within the port enclosure, thereby contributing to a policy of corporate social responsibility.
Specifically, SORGAVE will help carriers to better control the time they remain in port, while the regulation of vehicles in the service area will enable the stevedore sector to improve planning for the delivery and reception of containers.
